What are the Benefits of Rest & Recovery ?

Football players often put in a lot of time and effort into working out and training. They find some sort of victory in taking “no days off”. Little do they know that some time off would greatly boost their progress. That time off or recovery session is neglected by footballers because to them the benefit of it isn’t clear.

One of the main benefits of partaking in a good recovery session after training is the prevention of injury. We all understand the nightmare that injuries are in the world of sports and football as well as how easily an injury could end a football player’s career. Recovery allows you to protect yourself from a possible injury.

Following a workout with a recovery session allows your muscles to relax. That relaxation hastens your muscles’ readiness for the next workout. This allows you to increase the frequency of your training. With a proper recovery session following a proper recovery protocol you can go from having one daily workout to two or even three to four in the same day. Recovery grants you a better chance of working out more often which will help you progress to your goals at a faster rate.

While giving your muscles the chance to relax, recovery also allows you to workout or to train in a good physical state. Your body and your muscles are able to recover and restore themselves so that you can actually have good successful workouts that will help you progress and show improvement in your performance on the field. Training at a weak physical state guarantees a low benefit workout. If you think about it, working out is beneficial of course but at the end of the day it is an exertion. So, exerting your body at a time when it’s already at a weak state has a greater negative than positive effect. However, if you conduct a good recovery protocol that will put your body in good physical condition then you know that you’ll have a very beneficial workout that will actually help you progress.

In addition to those benefits, recovery insures consistency when it comes to general assessments of you and your performance as a football player. When with every training and with every football game or match your assessment shows good results and with every pre season, season, or competition period your assessment shows progress as well that consistency in result improves your overall level and rating as a player.

Prioritize recovery as much as possible. And make it one of the main components of your day and your workouts.
