Importance of Fitness in Football!
A question that is asked by ambitious football players is “How can I maintain my fitness during the season and periods of back to back competition?” It’s a very common concern for footballers and its answer is quite simple. Players during the season should aim to not only maintain their fitness but also improve it. They should be working to reach their peak during the season.
Having the plan to maintain fitness levels is a good ambition but it’s a very average goal. You should also want to become better and grow. Preseason conditioning helps you to build a good physical foundation that you can depend on during the season. One of the best ways you can build a solid foundation is through proper time management and proper distribution of your energy or exertion. That exertion includes training with your team as well as your personal training. It is important to properly allocate the work outs according to intensity along the week.
If we’re talking about the football leagues or the competitions where between every match is only one week then the following steps should be made: the day after the match we avoid any tiresome work outs or activities especially ones that exert more pressure on the legs, joints and lower body in general. Instead dedicate that time to strengthening the upper body, working on core stability, balance, and coordination. When the time between the matches is around 5-6 days, we have the chance/opportunity to get more work outs in. We can schedule one major high intensity training session as long as it is centered in the time available between the two matches.
However, in the case where there are matches around every 3 – 4 days, the best that we can do is to take care of and maintain our physical state and keep it balanced. We need to make sure that we are staying away from exhaustion. We should never push ourselves to the level of exhaustion during the competition season. We need to dedicate the 2-3 days before the match to restoring our energy levels so that by match day we are back on the field fully recharged in our best state for competition. ready to compete.
Training during the season isn’t the most important thing but as long as you have the time and chance to train then you should use that opportunity to elevate your skills and performance. It would be pointless to lose a year’s worth of conditioning and progress simply because you’re in the midst of football season. The preseason period for football used to be 3 months and has decreased to two and will continue to lessen as a result of the frequency of competition. So not prioritizing training during the season will inevitably result in loss of progress.
Know that you’ll be able to work on and improve your physical fitness as well as your football skills during the season even during times of competition but it’s simply a matter of how: time management, distribution of exertion, and a calculation of weekly energy dispersion. Don’t limit your training only to the preseason period. You can work on improving your fitness all year long to ensure that your performance is always improving because there is always a better and a greater level to get to.
